I hear the term “wellness” all of the time. What exactly does it mean?!

At Divine Alignment Massage & Wellness, a variety of wellness practices are offered: cupping, reiki (with and without crystals), chakra balancing, and aromatherapy.

At the most basic form, wellness is anything that helps you stay, well— healthy. I would split this into two areas: physical and mental. Either can be initiated by yourself or others. Care under a licensed healthcare professional often deals more with the physical part, but can also help the psyche. Self care is anything that you initiate and finish by yourself. Think of walking your dog, reading a book, taking a bath, or going for a hike… the list really is endless! There will be a later post devoted to ways to exercise self care.

The types that are offered at Divine Alignment Massage & Wellness are discussed in more detail below.

Cupping: Dating back to at least 1550 BCE, this technique involves placing heated glass cups on a person in order to relieve an ailment. Michael Phelps is known to be an enthusiast and used this during the Rio Olympics to aid his performance. Everyday people with everyday ailments (aches and pains) can benefit from this as well.

Reiki: Another ancient practice, reiki is based in Eastern medicine. The practice aims to release the flow of energy within the body.

Reiki with crystals: This employs the same technique as above, but with the addition of crystals. Each type of crystal has energy (per Einstein's e=mc^2). Crystal reiki is based in that energy transferring from the crystal to the patient.

Chakra Balancing: There are 7 chakras within each body: Muladhara (root) chakra, Svadhisthana (sacral) chakra, Manipura (solar plexus) chakra, Anahata (heart) chakra, Visuddhi (throat) chakra, Ajna (third eye) chakra, and the Sahasrara (crown) chakra. When the energy exchange between each is open and flowing properly there is a feeling of peace. If they become blocked, this can create chaos within our minds and bodies.

Aromatherapy: Another ancient practice, aromatherapy uses the fragrance from essential oils to relieve several ailments (insomnia, nausea, anxiety, depression, and others). At Divine Alignment, we stick to the oils that are known to not create allergic reactions (lavender, tea tree, peppermint, and lemon to name a few). Please let us know if you have a prefered oil or if you have an allergy.
